Welcome to Freeweaver Studio
Freeweaver Studio is London’s original freestyle weaving dojo — a dedicated space for intuitive textile making, sustainable fibres, and creative exploration on Japanese-style floor looms.
Trained in Japan and deeply influenced by the philosophy of spontaneous, unplanned weaving, our founder Erna Janine established Freeweaver as a place where cloth becomes a form of expression, meditation, and quiet rebellion. The studio is known for its welcoming atmosphere, its rhythmic calm, and its commitment to materials that matter — including linen, hemp, wild silk, and maritime fibres with deep historical roots.
Alongside our core weaving sessions, we regularly host RailReed and experimental warp workshops — offering rare access to advanced tools that push the boundaries of what woven cloth can be. From reedless weaving to sculptural warp play, these sessions invite both beginners and experienced weavers to explore new ways of working with fibre.
Freeweaver is also the founding home of the Japanese Textile and Craft Festival in London, and has partnered with organisations like the Japanese Embassy, Craft Central, Tate Modern, and Fashion Revolution to spotlight slow making, sustainable fashion, and textile heritage in contemporary contexts.
Whether you’re a complete beginner, a designer seeking fresh technique, or a maker looking to reconnect with tactile practice, our studio offers looms, yarns, and guidance to help you weave your own path.
