Resonance: Echoes of Material and Memory
An Exhibition by Freeweaver Studio for London Craft Week
14–18 May 2025
Deptford Market Yard, London

“Resonance: Echoes of Material and Memory” brings together fifteen artists whose practices are grounded in a deep respect for ancient, natural materials. Working with clay, flax, wild forest silk, hemp, hand-spun wool, and more, the exhibition explores how traditional materials—rich in texture, grain, and memory—are transformed through the intimacy of hand work into contemporary forms.

Each piece carries quiet echoes of both landscape and maker, revealing how craft is not only an act of creation but also one of connection—between past and present, material and imagination. The exhibition invites visitors to slow down, look closely, and engage with the sensory and historical depth woven into each object.

Featured formats include: pigment-based dyes, hand-spun Jakob wool, freestyle basketry, natural dye prints, printed porcelain, interlaced hemp, and more.

Featured Artists:
Emi Fujisawa, FLAXLAND, Contempery Hempery, Kitty Wilson Brown, Ana Bridgewater (ABALON), Kazuko Takahashi, Ross Belton, Jonathan Dredge, Brandy Godsil, Avani, Rafin Jannat, Tingting Xiao, Allan Brown, Zoe Burt, Femke Lemmens, Kaori Yatsumoto, Erna Janine, and Freeweaver Studio.

Several participating artists will be working in the gallery space throughout the exhibition, offering live glimpses into their materials and processes.

“Resonance” is an independent project by Freeweaver Studio and continues the lineage of the Exhibition of Natural Fibres, previously hosted across the UK since 2018. It offers a new, dynamic platform to celebrate natural materials and the evolving dialogue between tradition and innovation.
